Driven by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Cactus Nazarene Ministry Center (CNMC) exists to compassionately and holistically empower all of the diverse people groups of Cactus Texas. In 2007, after a tornado ripped through the town, a couple of pastors from Amarillo began to bring food and clothing to help those who lost everything in the storm. It was quickly realized that the needs in Cactus were much deeper than storm related. Relationships were quickly established with Cactus Elementary and other local organizations in order to facilitate meeting the known needs. From there, Cactus Nazarene Ministries grew and formed a 501c3 organization dedicated to serve the primarily, immigrant and refugee community to alleviate the difficulties of living, working, raising a family, and going to school in a new country with unfamiliar customs. CNMC is recognized as an accredited immigration facility by the Department of Justice and thus offers immigration legal services, including citizenship and permanent resident card application assistance. The Center offers EAL (English as an Additional Language), citizenship (CIVICS) courses, which prepare students for their naturalization interview and navigate American culture. Through a partnership with Cactus Elementary, we provide an after-school program BLAST (Building Lives Around Sound Truth) that assists children with homework, learning English, understanding the cultures around them, and creating healthy patterns of studying, self-motivation, confidence, goal setting, adapting to cultural expectations and facing challenges. This program has a summer program. INcluded in our programming is a program called RESILIENCE 1:9, that targets teens and helps them navigate in today's ever changing culture. Families and parents can participate in the Family Empowerment Education (F.E.ED) program that strives to equip families with tools to overcome the obstacles that may have led them here. Through this program, classes in finances, child safety, infant care, nutrition, and the like are offered. Such programs and others, like Shoes for Souls and Assistance with Texas Benefits are made possible through partnerships with Cactus Elementary, JBS Beef, Snack-pack for Kids, Moore Options Pregnancy Center and supporters like you! CNMC also employs the skills and compassion of teams from churches and universities from across the US to do brick and mortar projects both for the center and the community. These teams also bring music, sports, and Vacation Bible School type programs to the community children. The Ministry Center is also used for community activities like the Hygiene Day with Panhandle community Services, Helath Care services with Heal The City, meetings. Overall, CNMC works to provide a wide range of services to meet the holistic needs of the people who live and work in Cactus and the surrounding area.
