Caldwell Meals on Wheels Inc

Caldwell Meals on Wheels was founded in 1976 by a dedicated group of volunteers that saw a need and wanted to try to fill it.  We deliver to homebound seniors that are unable to prepare a nutritious meal for themselves.

Our first day in operation we delivered 6 meals.  In 2015 we delivered 29,406 meals!  This year we are projected to delivered close to 31,000 meals.  We still only have one paid employee!  We have approximately 30 volunteers that see that meals are delivered each Monday through Friday in Caldwell.  We also deliver frozen meals for use on the weekends and deliver on every holiday but Christmas!  The outlying areas of Caldwell and Middleton and Greenleaf receive deliveries of 7 frozen meals once a week.

Meals on Wheels is actually about much more than just delivering meals.  Our volunteers develop relationships with their clients.  Many times we are the only person a senior sees during the course of a day.  We are in a unique position to tell when something is wrong and more help may be needed.  Sometimes just a smile and a hug can go a long way and our volunteers are delighted to provide that, too!

We receive some government funding, but over 40% of our operating funds come from donations.  Our overhead is very low and nearly 85% of our funds are used to buy the meals!
