The Kern River Valley has been hit by two very large forest fires recently. The Erskine Fire burned over 280 homes to the ground and displaced hundreds of families. The Cedar Fire is still being fought by our wonderful fire fighters. Due to these fires, local funds are going to the rebuilding effort which leaves little left over for our skate park project.

Kern County is providing the land and California Recreation Foundation is raising the funds to construct the George & Darlene Randall Skate Park in Lake Isabella. A professional construction company (Spohn Ranch) will contract with the County.

The Kern River Valley has very few options for at-risk youth to keep them active and out of trouble. It has been proven by a law enforcement survey that skate parks provide a place to meet, a good cardio workout, reduces drug use and reduces criminal activity.

Increased tourism is yet another benefit. While families come to the Kern River Valley for camping, fishing, hiking, etc., we want to provide a place for the younger visitors to enjoy theirselves. A busy youth is a youth who stays out of trouble.

We need a total of $162,000, which amount will be reduced by in-kind donations of services and materials.

All donations may be tax deductible.
