Our members and guests gather in a friendly, open atmosphere of desert hospitality. We are dedicated to learning and teaching the skills and techniques of writing. Our membership is involved in poetry, screenwriting, horror, fantasy, sci-fi, biographies, memoirs, romance, historical novels, journalism, fiction and non-fiction.  All genres and writing interests are encouraged.

We meet on the second Saturday of each month  from 10 a.m. to noon 
in the Community Room of the Newton T. Bass Apple Valley Library.

In 2013 our members published 16 books, as well as numerous articles, poems and stories. One member signed a deal to have her novel made in to a feature film.

Mission Statement

The California Writers Club (CWC) shall foster professionalism in writing, promote networking of writers with the writing community, mentor new writers, and provide literary support for writers and the writing community as is appropriate through education and leadership.

The public is welcome.

Our monthly meetings host a variety of guest speakers discussing  a variety of fiction , non fiction  topics as well as other aspects of selling and marketing writing.

The High Desert Branch of the California Writers Club conducts writing workshops at the Federal Prison Facility in Victorville; the club also holds an anonymous critique group that reads provides feedback on inmate writings.

Our monthly meetings host a variety of guest speakers discussing all aspects of fiction and non-fiction topics as well as methods of selling and marketing writing.

The High Desert Branch of the California Writers Club conducts writing workshops at the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville; the club also offers an anonymous critique group that reads and provides constructive feedback on inmate writings.

The HDCWC recently completed the2014 Dorothy C Blakely Memoir Project that paired students from the Academy for Academic Excellence in Apple Valley with senior citizens to document their life stories. The completed essays will be published in mid-2014.

The High Desert Branch has published two anthologies of stories and poetry by members, Howling at the Moon in 2010 and Desert Gold in 2013. The club also has genre-specific critique groups open to members to refine their work for publication.
