"I'm off to do big things!" Callie Wright would shout to her parents as she ran out the front door.  Her signature phrase still rings in the ears of her family and friends.  Now, after a tragic car accident took her life at the age of 23, this former law student's legacy and zest for life lives on through the foundation set up in her memory. 

Callie had a sincere desire to help people, especially those going through difficult times. Callie’s Kids, founded in memory of Callie, daughter of Lyon and Leslie Wright, was established in May 2010 and was granted non-profit status August 25, 2010. The program is an effort to help children in need and to give back to the community where Callie was raised.  

Callie’s Kids supports the Alabama Alliance for Arts Education belief that all children should have equal opportunities to discover and develop their talents.  The organization‘s goal is based on providing enrichment activities for all children throughout Talladega County and the surrounding areas, especially those children who might not otherwise have such opportunities. Arts enrichment should be fundamental to the education of every child in Alabama.  Research shows that participation in the various art disciplines helps children increase their creative thinking and problem solving skills, and promotes personal development. In a short period of time Callie’s Kids has supported a variety of enrichment opportunities for hundreds of children in the area.

The board members, Callie’s family and friends and everyone associated with Callie’s Kids appreciates the community support along with the collaborative partnerships with the Talladega Heritage Commission and Heritage Hall Museum, the Jemison Carnegie Foundation, the Historic Ritz Theater in Talladega, the Missoula Children's Theater, the area school systems, the Little House Dance Studio, and various artists, teachers and volunteers.
