Around the globe, 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes.  We need look no further than neighboring Mexico to see this.  Mixtecan, Trique and other indigenous peoples in Baja, Mexico work 60 to 80 hours a week for as little as $.25 per hour.  These fieldworkers provide most of the produce for the western US during the winter; yet these people live without running water and sanitation and their diet consists mostly of beans and rice.  Most live in shacks made from wooden pallets and plastic.
This coming June, Project Hope will take a team of 60 Napa Valley volunteers to build three houses, provide a clean water source and sanitation, and offer free medical screenings by medical professionals.  These volunteers have selflessly committed their time and resources to help the needy in Baja for one full week.  The cost of materials to build and furnish three houses for needy families is only $15,000.
