Remember the countdown to summer? Thoughts of spending lazy days with friends? Summer camp packed with outdoor adventures, arts & crafts and unbridled fun with your summer buddies year after year? Well, it's almost summer. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! But...
For some children, the countdown never ends. Often, day camps cannot create the safe environment and supportive programs that children with special needs require, and the carefree fun-filled summers they deserve.
Camp Attaway does.
With 1:2 staff ratios and experienced counselors from the local special education, mental health and social work communities, children with emotional, developmental and behavioral disabilities thrive. Campers enjoy an awesome day camp experience learning how to make and keep friends, manage difficult emotions and acquire skills they (and their parents) never thought possible. All this while having an outrageously great time!
Since 1996, hundreds of children have lived the Camp Attaway dream. Attaway has been recognized recently by the Community Foundation of Howard County with its 2014 Casey & Pebble Willis Making a Difference Award, and by the Association of Community Services with its 2013 Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Award for Employee Team of the Year. This camp is a truly remarkable place for children with special needs.
It takes $2200 to send a child to Camp Attaway for a 3-week session. Many require some level of scholarship to attend. Since 1996, no camper has ever been turned away due to their family’s financial circumstance, and Camp Attaway’s’ mission promises that no camper ever will be.
This year, our goal is to provide full scholarships for 10 children to attend camp. That's $22,000 by June 15th!
We need your help, and it's easy.
