Help us help these amazing warrior kids, teens, siblings and parents!
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the family begins to live a "new normal", including disruption in their social, emotional and financial stability. Each member of the family is uniquely impacted. The diagnosed child now lives and copes through medical treatments, side effects, body changes, ongoing hospitalizations and daily or weekly clinic visits, absence from school and inability to continue normal social and educational development. This child's siblings cope with fears of loss, worries regarding their own health, "survivor's" guilt or that of being the "healthy" child, loss of attention and often their own social opportunities due to the high care needs of their sibling. Parents are suddenly in need of meeting the needs of their ill child, their other children, and their own financial pressures stemming from work absences and often actual job loss due to the high care needs of their child.
Candlelighters CCFSA provides social, emotional, educational and financial support to these children, teens and families through monthly events, peer to peer networking, support groups and one on one mentoring. These include our Annual Family Camp, Dream Night Prom for teens, Holiday Assistance Party, inpatient Thanksgiving Dinner, activities in the outpatient clinic, and ongoing support groups. In addition, families are eligible for up to 500.00 annually of much needed financial assistance for utility, rent/mortgage/car payments, gas, groceries, etc. through our Financial Assistance Committee protocol.
Help us help these amazing warrior kids, teens, siblings and parents!
