Canterbury Enterprises, Inc.

Canterbury Enterprises, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing full-time, part-time, and temporary employment to St. Louis area people with developmental disabilities (such as autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and chromosome disorders), so that they may be more independent, fulfilled, confident individuals. In 1983, Canterbury Enterprises, Inc. was founded by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater St. Louis to address a problematic gap in employment services, assistance, and supports provided to individuals with significant physical disabilities. From the inaugural day that Canterbury Enterprises, Inc. first opened our doors to welcome our employees, we have set the standard and raised the bar for our fellow Missouri sheltered workshops. With great passion for and expertise in this community, Canterbury responded to the evolving needs of the community, and expanded to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities, while continuing to provide personal care services to all and fulfill our original mission.

At Canterbury, we work with our employees to identify and build upon their individual strengths, and customize the best work experience for them based upon this information. Our organization is uniquely person-focused, and without a workshop of our caliber, many residents of St. Louis with developmental disabilities, especially multiple disabilities or severe disabilities, would either be homebound or have to go to a day program. In addition to employment, Canterbury provides vocational training, personal care, Individual Program Plans, referral and coordination of services, disability rights advocacy, consulting therapy, social events and group activities. Our specific and unique formula of knowledge, business and care enables us to provide these individuals a satisfying, empowering employment experience in a setting that also allows them to be social and connected with their peers and mentors.
