Max is a polydactyl, bob-tailed cancer survivor. He came to us as a stray. Shortly after his arrival, we discovered a black mole on his ear, which was of concern to our staff. Max was diagnosed with skin cancer. To save his life, a portion of his ear was removed.
Thanks to the surgery, and the love and care he received, he made a complete recovery and we found Max a loving home. We estimated Max to be about three years old. Max is just one example of the many "special" cats that Pet Haven has been able to help and found loving "furever" homes for. We also have many, many other cats waiting for new families.
It’s donors like you who make it possible for our small staff and group of volunteers to shelter and care for Max and the many other cats we welcome. Here, they are given another chance at finding a forever home.
Pet Haven Inc dba Pet Haven Cat Adoption Center receives no government funding. We rely on donations, adoption fees, and fund raising for 100% of our funding.
Founded in 1972, Pet Haven Cat Adoption Center is the only shelter dedicated to cats in the western part of the Treasure Valley. Pet Haven has been operated as a “no-kill” shelter since May of 2015. Our “save rate” is now more than 96%. Compassionate euthanasia is only an option in cases where a cat is suffering or is deemed too aggressive for adoption.
MORE ABOUT US:
Sheltering & Adoptions
The shelter can house approximately 75 cats, with room for about 30 on the adoption floor. In 2022, we found homes for 577 cats through the facility and our partnership with PetSmart in Nampa. All cats are vaccinated, de-wormed, and FLV/FIV-tested prior to adoption. Microchips are available.
Affordable Spay & Neuter Clinic
We host a spay/neuter clinic once a week to help reduce cat overpopulation and homelessness. Shelter cats are altered and the weekly clinic is also available to the public. It is headed by Dr. Ellen German of Boise. Thanks to our partnership with her, approximately 1,500 Canyon County cats get altered at Pet Haven each year.
Volunteers
Pet Haven couldn’t function without our volunteer family. Some volunteers help with feeding and cleaning of the shelter cats. Others make a difference by petting and socializing them, giving them love and attention. Foster families save lives by fostering homeless kittens until they are old enough to come to the shelter. Adoption counselors handle off-site adoptions. Retail volunteers provide valuable support at our thrift store. And the list goes on and on.
Expansion
it is our desire to find a new location for our shelter. Our current building is old and outdated and does not allow for "free roaming" rooms for the cats or adequate separation to aid with reducing the spread of illness. We are currently actively looking for a new building and fundraising for that
Thank you in advance for considering a gift to Pet Haven during Idaho Gives. Together we can make a difference for the many cats in our shelter right now and in the future. They are counting on you!
