CAR is an inclusive, intergenerational Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) centric organization working with our Allies to build and sustain a progressive movement in Arkansas  that connects people, communities and issues while also changing hearts and minds in order to end discrimination, secure equal rights, protections and fair treatment for ALL Arkansans.

CAR works with its two full-time staff, two talented interns and other important community volunteer support. We have a working Board of Directors

Our programs include:

DYSC - For LGBTQ and Ally youth ages 13-22. Providing Leadership development, peer and mentor support. This program meets every Friday night at 6:30pm

AR Affiliate of the National GSA Network - Providing resources and support for the 36 Gay, Straight Alliances, GSA's in AR schools as well as helping students who wish to do so start new ones

Annual Rainbow Camp for LGBTQ and Ally youth, a safe camp experience that provides fun, leadership development and a lifetime of memories

Safe Schools - Providing training, resources, advocacy and policy work to make schools safer for LGBTQ youth and to serve as an ally to all students

LMH Youth Center - The only drop-in center in the state for LGBTQ youth

Adult community center space that also serves as a meeting space for various community groups and coalitions

House and partner with PFLAG Little Rock an amazing parent led group helping parents, friends and other relatives with their questions and struggles regarding their loved ones who are LGBTQ. The group also serves as a community educational resource and is a strong ally with CAR and other groups

CAR's primary focus in addition to our program work is to “Add the Words” - sexual orientation and gender identity to the Arkansas Civil Rights Law, the needs of aging AR LGBTQ elders, and the creation of a state civil rights commission.

Various community activities include: Corazon - our annual art based fundraiser, Poets “OUT” Loud, Champions of Justice – Angelic Troublemaker Award, Big Gay Variety Show and LR Pride Parade & Festival

CAR works with a variety of state, regional and national organizations.

 We are members of the Arkansas Citizens First Congress, A co-founding member of the Arkansans for Human and Civil Rights Coalition, CenterLink - National Association of LGBTQ Community Centers and the National Association of GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) Networks.

We are a member of the Better Together Southern Leadership and Action Cohort, a part of Race Forward (originally known as Applied Research Center). Specifically to advance racial justice and LGBTQ liberation. We work with the Arkansas chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in regard to LGBTQ youth suicide prevention.

At CAR we believe that we are ALL Better Together and that it is up to us ALL to work together in order to “Make it Better Together Today”, for Arkansas and our beloved communities!
