Caring Days is a day program for adults with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Pick’s, Huntington’s, stroke, brain tumors, alcoholism, trauma induced and other related memory disorders. The center is open 7:30-5:30, Monday through Friday. Caring Days is an activity based program to enhance the quality of life for clients and to provide respite for caregivers.
Caring Days opened in March, 1997. It is a program of Caring Congregations, a group of twenty-one congregations of varied denominations who came together to address some unmet needs in the West Alabama area. What started as one half- day program has now expanded to include three day care locations, Project Lifesaver, two caregiver support groups, and caregiver/sitter training classes. The Caring Days location alone provides over 45,000 hours of client care services each year while only charging clients half of what it costs to provide that quality care.
Caring Days is presently housed in rental space in the Easter Seals Building across the street from DCH Regional Medical Center. The current facility has no kitchen, no laundry, inadequate bathroom space, and no storage. With a daily census of approximately 25 clients, Caring Days has badly outgrown the existing space. By building the new Mal and Charlotte Moore Center, Caring Days will be able to double the number of clients served in an attractive as well as functional facility.
The goals of Caring Days are to make our clients laugh and smile every day and improve quality of life for the clients as well as their caregivers. The kindness and generosity of many good people has allowed us to survive and the continued support will let us grow and help more people in the future. Your contribution to Caring Days will help to bring smiles to many faces every day.
