The Center Against Sexual Assault (C.A.S.A.) was established to serve Southwest Riverside County in December 1984, as the result of a local rape in response to one teacher’s effort to help a student. In the beginning it was strictly a volunteer effort. Volunteers served as both crisis counselors and advocates supporting survivors of sexual assault through their difficult process.
Volunteers responded to Hemet Hospital, worked with local police and sheriff’s departments and accompanied survivors at the municipal court.
C.A.S.A. currently operates a 24-hour crisis line offering advocacy, community outreach, rape prevention and education classes, crisis counseling and support group services to the survivors of sexual assault in the Hemet, San Jacinto Valley community.

As an organization, we believe:

  • Ending sexual violence is a community responsibility
  • All individuals should be treated with respect
  • In mainting the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality
  • Education can affect change in attitudes and behaviors
  • In meeting the needs of all members of our community by deliberatley addressing sexual violence and all other forms of opression
