Casa Helotes Senior Citizens Center

A nonprofit organization

Casa Helotes Senior Center was founded in 1986 by a small number of women in Sigma Pi chapter of ESA International, who previously prepared and delivered meals to seniors on their own. As the demand for meals grew, the group envisioned having a central location to prepare and serve hot meals for seniors as well as giving seniors a safe gathering place to stay engaged in their community. The group obtained funding for the current facility and equipment through Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), private donations, and fundraising activities.

Today, Casa Helotes Senior Center remains active in fulfilling its initial goals. Currently, the center serves an average of 200 congregate meals weekly to seniors in Helotes, Northwest San Antonio and surrounding communities.

In addition to serving congregate meals to seniors, Casa Helotes Senior Center also offers a variety of classes, including Line Dancing, Beginner Yoga, Intermediate Yoga, Senior-Approved Chair Exercise, Intermediate Exercise, Balance In Action, Quilting, Painting and more.  The center also features weekly bingo games, monthly nutrition classes and senior education topics such as "Safety for Seniors", Medicare 101, Estate Planning and many more.

Since its inception, Casa Helotes Senior Center has not received continued financial support from local or state entities.  As a result, the center relies heavily on private donations and fundraisers to continue their mission of providing a safe environment for seniors to gather for information, education, fitness, nutrition, and fellowship.
