"If it was not for CASA I don't know what I would do."  Our office staff and volunteers hear this statement all too often from the people we serve, a population that is often over looked and forgotten.  The seniors in our community many times lack the resources or the family that can help them in their time of need. On top of everything else, the cost of living is so expensive that it often leaves very little left at the end of the month for the necessities in life.  An average CASA client is 80 years old and lives on less than $600 a month. CASA is here to help make sure that the seniors and homebound in Madison County are able to get the help that they need to live in their homes if they choose, or even if they have no choice.

Recently CASA volunteers built a ramp for Ms. N, a 73-year-old widow who has always been the caretaker in her family.  This last year, her health started to deteriorate. Now she needs help, but her family lives in out of state.  Her home is in Madison County, so she called CASA!  We were able to have the volunteers go out to her home and build a much needed wheelchair ramp.  Volunteers were also able to repair the deck of her mobile home for a safer entrance and exit.  After the volunteers were done, Ms. N was thrilled!  She called our office staff to let us know her new favorite thing to do is to go get her mail every afternoon ... because she can!  Many times it is something as simple as stepping right outside the door that makes a world of difference in the lives of our clients.

We provide our services at no cost to our clients.  The services that we provide range from the building and repairing of wheelchair ramps to transporting seniors to and from doctor's appointments.  Our CASA Garden produces thousands of pounds of veggies each year for the last 20 years to provide our clients with nutritious options that are more costly in the stores.  Our volunteers also help with winterization of homes that help keep homes warmer in the winter.  All of our support comes from people like you!  We rely on community donations to keep these services free of charge. With your support, we will continue to keep Madison County’s seniors and homebound safe in their own homes.
