Single women with children is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in the country.

In 2013, several Bakersfield women, aware of the growing population of homeless women, pondered the possibility of establishing a home modeled after Alexandria House in Los Angeles.

After due diligence assessing the need, feasibility, and community support for establishing such a home, Casa Esperanza Transitional Home for Women was born with incorporation in December 2014.

Innovative and holistic in approach, Casa Esperanza residents will live in a family like environment that engenders a spirit of community, a sense of extended family, and a nurturing atmosphere that reflects the inherent dignity and personal worth of each resident. On a case management basis, resources will be enlisted according to each participant’s need, in order for her to move forward and achieve her ultimate goal of reaching economic stability and permanent housing.

Key factors that move us forward are the following:

  • When established, Casa Esperanza will respond to a service gap in programs for the homeless in Bakersfield.
  • Its innovative and holistic approach will affirm the dignity of each resident in every aspect of Casa Esperanza’s operations.

A four to six bedroom home will be purchased. This home will be located near central Bakersfield to ensure easier access to transportation and other needed services.

Recognizing that a positive self image and strong sense of individual worth are operative factors toward one's success in dealing with adversity, Casa Esperanza's bottom line modus operandi will be to reverence the inherent dignity of each resident in every aspect of its program.
