We study and protect carnivores at risk of extinction in mountain ecosystems through innovative science, strong partnerships and local community action.

Description

Cascades Carnivore Project is a conservation science nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of the Northwest’s most threatened carnivores and their ecosystems. Our work is grounded in the belief that sound conservation actions must be informed by the best-available science and public support. 

Our critical work for conservation is paying significant dividends: 

• The Cascade red fox was recently listed as an endangered species in Washington and we are now spearheading the research for extinction prevention of the species.
• Wolverines are returning to and reproducing in Mount Rainier National Park for the first time in a century.
• The Canada lynx is the focus of our new study of its genetic health and connectivity in their last stronghold in Washington.
• And the Sierra Nevada red fox, a species of concern in Oregon, is in the spotlight thanks to increased attention.

These significant accomplishments illustrate the collaborative nature of our work, the relevance of our mission, and the achievement of a critical mass of support through volunteers, donors, and staff.

15 Years of Conservation Work
