Cathedral in the Night Ministry

Five and a half years ago, Cathedral in the Night began worshipping outside in an effort to create a radically inclusive community where anyone, from any walk of life, might feel welcome and completely accepted.

Cathedral continues to meet every Sunday, rain or shine, subzero temperatures or under feet of snow, to create community and serve the only hot community meal in Northampton on Sundays.

Not everyone who worships with us is homeless. Some are, some are not. We are not a "homeless church"; we are simply a church that welcomes people who might not feel comfortable walking into a traditional church building on Sunday morning. Maybe they struggle with addtion. Maybe they have a mental illness which does not allow them to sit still or stay quiet during the service. In our church, that's totally okay. Because we are outside, we have no walls, and without walls, we welcome all the noises of the street, all the quirks of the city, and all the behaviors of our members.

In addition to our weekly meetings on Sunday, we also meet every Tuesday at 3pm at Bruegger's Bagels for an hour of check in and prayer, followed by a half of our of deeper spiritual investigation.

We also host a women's group in the Parlor of First Churches, every Monday at 1:30pm for tea, art and conversation creating a safe place for women to meet, open up, and be in community.

We worship every Sunday night at 5pm outside of First Churches on Main Street in Downtown Northampton. Our meals begin as soon as worship ends, usually about 5:30pm.
