Catholic Care Center, a leader in senior care for nearly 35 years, recently expanded its services with the addition of St. Veronica Senior Behavioral Health Hospital. This acute care hospital serves seniors who are facing mental and emotional health challenges with the compassion and grace that they and their families deserve during these difficult times.  After decades of serving seniors with dementia, and seeing the effects of neurocognitive and psychiatric conditions on the aging population that we serve, creating this program and continuing Bishop Gerber’s vision of showing the world how to care for seniors seemed like a natural progression for our ministry.

After 18 months of planning and construction, the hospital was ready to accept its first patient. In the midst of the project, a small team gathered to decide what to name this new hospital. The idea of St. Veronica quickly became a favorite as we envisioned coming forward to serve seniors in their times of trial the way that she courageously came forward to serve Christ during his crucifixion.  Because of all of the licensures an inspections a new hospital is subject to, you don’t arbitrarily set a “grand opening” and instead wait for clearance from the governing bodies to begin service.  On July 12, 2023, the feast day of St. Veronica, we were granted the authority to open the hospital and begin serving our first patient.  This timing was another indication of the divine providence of this new part of our ministry and reinforced the idea that St. Veronica was the perfect patroness for the hospital.

Today, as we continue to serve seniors and families during their most difficult times we need your help to bring the beauty and significance of St. Veronica and her image to our hospital.  We are asking for your support in the creation of a stained glass window for our St. Veronica Senior Behavioral Health hospital prayer room and a mural of St. Veronica in the dining room. We believe these powerful images will help comfort and guide our staff and those we serve in the important ministry of senior behavioral health. Thank you for your support of our ministry!
