Catmandu

Catmandu is a unique NO KILL, cage-free, non-profit cat rescue/sanctuary in northern Nevada dedicated to helping homeless cats. We provide them with a warm, safe place to live, medical care, quality food and water, spay/neuter, love, nurturing and socialization until their forever homes are found.

Catmandu is home to approximately 100 cats at any given time.  Our residents range in age from a few months old to 14+ years. We work hard to satisfy the mental, emotional and physical needs of the felines in our care. It is more like a group home/rehab than a shelter. Our rooms are filled with cat walks, shelves, cat trees, climbing towers, hidey-holes, and lots of soft places to sleep. There is also a huge covered catio and an enclosed back yard. We nourish their bodies with high-quality cat food and fountains full of filtered, purified water.

We provide each cat with individual attention in a low-stress atmosphere that helps them to overcome past traumas, learn to trust humans, and become loving, adoptable pets. With some cats, this can take months to years but we are patient and persistent..

Many of our residents come to us as strays who have been abandoned by their owners. Some are surrendered because of an owner’s illness, death, relocation or financial disaster.  Some come from high-kill shelters where they were going to be euthanized. All of them are frightened, lonely, confused and in need. Using calm, gentle, unhurried and non-threatening techniques; we work tirelessly to restore them to good physical and emotional health, ready for adoption. If no forever home is found we provide a safe, loving home for them for the remainder of their lives.

Most of our older cats are placed through the senior 2 senior foster program which matches senior citizens with senior cats and provides medical and other support to the senior. This allows seniors to have the benefits of a cat friend without financial and other worries.

None of this is cheap. We receive no government funding. We rely on volunteers, donations and adoptions for our continued existence. The amount we can do is directly proportional to the support we receive from the community and our beloved supporters.
