Catnip Casa Cat Refuge

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge cats are unadoptable in most shelters, or in the case of community cats, unable to function in their natural environment. The cats we accept have the potential to live well with specialized care. We strive to keep their environment as safe and normal as possible while addressing their unique needs, including rehabilitation and caregiver training and support to adopt special needs cats into loving homes whenever possible.

We educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for cats with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We also strive to develop a network of persons, services, and resources, that benefit the community by keeping senior and special needs cats out of shelters. 

We mentor trappers, loan equipment, and actively support TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats too. Since Covid shut down some clinics temporarily and others permanently, many communities no longs have even one free TNR clinic. During the Covid shutdown, we lost a lot of progress toward keeping community cats safer and healthier. The cats need us to fund TNR projects too. It costs a minimum of $20 dollars to TNR one kitty at the cheapest clinic here in Austin. Volunteer trappers cannot pay for those costs out-of-pocket for entire litters. 

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge needs your help to help as many cats and their families as possible. Costs are going up. Some kitties have ongoing medical needs that require care owners aren't trained to provide, like injections or fluid administration. Others need comfort care in their final days. Many senior cats also need extra dental care, food, or medications, an owner can no longer afford. Our community assistance fund helps when funds are available. Our first mission is to the cats in our care, but you can help ensure we have enough on hand to help others too. It takes money to purchase food, medical supplies, medications, training materials, veterinary care, toys, litter, recovery condos, and more. Every dollar counts.
