The Central Alabama Women's Business Center (CAWBC), a project of the Schlarb Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs, which was established in 1999 to help socially and economically disadvantaged women business owners build and grow their business. Our doors opened in July 2001 and over time, CAWBC has remained committed to helping businesses thrive. We welcome women and men business owners. We serve a seven county area including: Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, Walker, Talladega and Tuscaloosa Counties.

Services - We understand that some clients come to CAWBC for help with the development of ideas, while others have established businesses.  Although your needs may vary, we offer our expertise to either help your venture launch or continue to mature.   Regardless, each client who selects our services needs to feel supported in her effort to develop a thriving business that has a foundation on which the endeavor can grow. At the same time, established businesses need somewhere to turn with questions and for information that keep the business moving forward. Our services are designed to meet those needs.

Counseling - Whether it is a new or established business, there will be questions that need answering. The CAWBC provides confidential counseling services free to business owners. Sessions offer one-on-one opportunities for entrepreneurs to access answers to questions and resources on a variety of topics including:

  • Developing a business plan
  • Marketing products or services
  • Financing and funding sources
  • Should you incorporate?

Training - Staying in the game requires ongoing training. This ensures the sustainability of your business, enabling it to grow and reach its full potential. CAWBC provides training and continuing education for business owners. The marketplace continuously evolves. Similarly, topics addressed in our training sessions change to address the current business climate. Topics have included:

  • Certifying Your Business as a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) or Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)
  • Bookkeeping
  • Technical Assistance for Loan Preparation

Staff is open to suggestions for training topics. We are here to meet the needs of our clients.

Networking - Building a support network means having others to call with questions, for ideas or to simply speak with, because there is someone who understands your experience. The Center can help you develop or expand your entrepreneurial network. Join our email list, to find out event dates. You can also follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn for the latest information.
