Center for All Abilities (CAA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that seeks to empower people of all abilities through enrichment programs to recognize their full potential and thrive in the community. At CAA, we envision a world where those of all abilities can integrate fully in society.
Founded in 2015, CAA sought to minimize the service gap for neurodiverse individuals, especially those among the Chinese immigrant community, by acting as a resource through providing learning resources and enrichment programs for children, youth, parents, and a supportive atmosphere for the entire family. Programs offered include a Mentoring Program, Creative Arts Therapy Program, Vocational Training Baking Program, Family Support Group, and Children's Playgroup.
Looking back on CAA's beginnings, Founder and Artistic Director Phoebe Ho-Wong shares:
“My journey of working with people of all abilities began fourteen years ago, when I was given a childcare volunteer opportunity that shaped my understanding of our world and our community. This opportunity became a life-changing experience – it opened my eyes to see how God has wonderfully created every person uniquely with a purpose; it opened my mind to know that there are creative ways to make meaningful connections and empower one another; and it opened my heart to perceive the needs of the community and strive to live out my passion with this calling.
In the Summer of 2015, a group of proactive parents, passionate community workers, and loving volunteers saw a need to build a community of love, confidence, and creativity among people of all abilities, particularly those who often go without recognition and opportunities to flourish. Thus, we established the Center for All Abilities as an organization to be a platform to foster achievement and the realization of potential in all aspects of life for people of all abilities through creative channels.
Stepping into the fifth year of the Center for All Abilities, I’ve become increasingly dedicated to our mission, constantly impressed by our team, and more impassioned by our families. We have doubled our number of staff and programs. We partner with more organizations and churches each year. And now, we have opened a second program site in Flushing, Queens to support the families that have challenges riding public transportation to our Manhattan site. We continually strive to spread sunshine around families and ensure that they feel a warm sense of community and support, all in an effort to unfold God’s love and show that we are all wonderfully made!”
Today, CAA continues to be devoted to the notion that we are all born with unique talents to contribute to the community. This guiding principle leads CAA to cultivate the potential in people of all abilities and assist their families in overcoming the cultural and language barriers they face alongside the challenges of fostering the growth of their children.
