In 2013, Children’s Advocacy Centers around the country served nearly 295,000 child victims of abuse.  In 2014, the number was over 315,000.

As a Children’s Advocacy Center, the Center for Children is a vital resource servicing the Southern Maryland community.

A private non-profit organization founded in 1989, the Center for Children is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and the promotion of positive mental health through crisis intervention, therapy, education, and advocacy.

As the largest provider of children's mental health services in Southern Maryland, the Center for Children serves more than 4,500 individuals a year from Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's counties, in addition to Southern Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties. Helping children of all ages, the Center is a major resource for the Department of Social Services, county health departments, schools, pediatricians and youth organizations.

Our team of professional clinicians provides a wide variety of comprehensive mental health services for the entire family including individual and family therapy, play and group therapy, psychological testing and evaluations, mental health evaluations and more than 19 programs and services. Our staff understands that one small change can affect an entire family and the course of a child’s life. The programs we provide are important because they are helping local children and families develop better communication skills, emotional resilience, and better relationships to live more satisfying lives. We strongly believe that every child in need should have the resources to receive quality mental health care.

The Center depends on a variety of funding sources ranging from grants to corporate donations. In addition, we also rely on the support from the surrounding community to assist us in growing our programs.
