Center for Combating Elder Financial Abuse

The Center For Combating Elder Financial Abuse was founded in February, 2021 and it was created to help protect our nation’s 58 million elders.  The Center’s Founder, John Schwartz, is a retired FBI Special Agent who served for over 24 years.  Prior to joining the FBI, John served on active duty in the US Army for nine years.  

The mission of the Center is the following:  Lead the way in protecting the elderly and their families from predators who commit elder financial abuse.  The Center accomplishes its mission by providing education on how financial predators: 1) deliberately target, 2) groom, and 3) take control of a vulnerable senior and take their life savings.  The Center crafts its education based on John’s experience as a retired law enforcement officer.  

The Center is building momentum and has participated in events across Virginia, and additional states.  Some of the 2023 and 2024 highlights are included below.

1.  Participated in four AARP - Virginia events

2.  Gave presentations to three Rotary International chapters in Northern VA 

3.  Gave a presentation to the Culpeper NAACP Chapter

4.  Gave a presentation at the Rappahannock County Library with Rapp At Home

5.  Participated in the Aging Together Culpeper Expo

6.  Gave a presentation at the Fauquier County TRIAD meeting

7.  Gave a presentation at the Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol Summer Symposium

8.  Gave presentations at two Prince William County libraries

9.  Participated in two Manassas City Police Elder Care Resource Fairs

10.  Gave a joint presentation at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA

11.  Worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in Fort Indiantown Gap, PA

12.  Conducted internships with students from West Chester University, near Philadelphia, PA

13.  Gave a presentation at the West Chester University Crime & Justice Lecture Series

14.  Conducted a webinar with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, based in Austin, TX

15.  Gave a presentation at the Maryland Notary Conference in Rockville, MD

16.  Received our Candid/Guidestar Silver Transparency Seal. 

17.  Gave a presentation at the Park Valley Church Senior Summit in Haymarket, VA
