The Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida (CILNCF) first opened its doors to the community in 1981 and today, has a 35 year history of providing quality services to people with disabilities living in Gainesville and the North Central Florida region.

The CILNCF is a uniquely qualified resource center, as it is consumer controlled and driven; over 51% of staff and Board of Directors have a disability.  This personnel majority brings a wealth of first-hand experience of living with a disability, which influences every aspect of the organization.  The resulting program development and direct service delivery responds to local needs, for which staff and Board members themselves understand and have experienced first-hand.

The area and population served by the CILNCF is very diverse.  We provide all of our services at no cost to people with all types of disabilities.  Our organization delivers the Five-Core Services of the Independent Living Program, which includes Advocacy, Information and Referral, Peer Support, Independent Living Skills Education and Transition.

Here are a few comments from individuals with disabilities who have benefitted from our services:

"Thank you so much.  It helps me knowing you're there to help people like me and others."

"This is a wonderful place.  Thanks a lot for all the help you have provided for me and my family."

"Now I am moving forward in my struggle to survive.  Thank you for all the help."

"I am thankful for the help I am receiving.  Thank you for caring about my problems."
