Mission

Hillel at Stanford enables Jewish students of all backgrounds, from Traditional to unaffiliated, to explore and celebrate their Jewish identity along any of the dimensions of Jewish life cultural, educational, religious, social, and social justice. Hillel at Stanford is committed to fostering a vibrant and enduring Jewish community at Stanford University by providing the most engaging and high quality programs possible. Hillel at Stanford is dedicated to building bridges between members of the Jewish community and the other cultural, ethnic, and religious communities.

Programs

Through the 18 Jewish student organizations at Stanford, Hillel sponsors over 300 programs/events every year. A sampling of these programs includes: Religious: Shabbat Unplugged in dormitories with student musicians leading services in violin, flute and guitar. A variety of Passover seders for 450 students, including Orthodox, AEPi-Conservative, Social Action, GraduateStudent, and dorm-based student led seders. Rosh Hodesh, The Women's Collective monthly event focused on Jewish ritual and learning. Social Action and Justice: Yeledim Korim, a reading program for underprivileged children in East Palo Alto. Social Action at sunrise, a group of students get together to make breakfast to serve at the local drop-in shelter. Camp Kesem, a summer camp for kids whose parents have cancer. Educational and Cultural Top speakers on Israel including Ehud Barak, Thomas Friedman, Yossi Beilin, Limor Livnat, and Herb Keinon. Holocaust (Yom Hashoah) and Israel (Yom Ha'atzmaut) Education Weeks with guest speakers, film showings and group discussions. Partnerships with Stanford Lively Arts to bring world renowned composers and performers such as virtuoso violinist Daniel Heifitz, actress/director Sherry Glaser and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Leadership Development through a Jewish Lens, a two credit course given under the auspices of the Dept. of Public Policy. And Social: Second Sundays Jazz brunches at the Coho, a time for Jews on campus to come together socially and listen to live music. We average 100 every month. Members of the Tribe, ski trips to Tahoe.
