On August 28, 2021, Center of Life will be joining #Give828, a national day of giving to Black-led nonprofit organizations. #Give828 in support of our growing youth and family programs. For over 20 years Center of Life has served the families of the Hazelwood community through music and arts, athletics, and education. Support Center of Life this #Give828, and help us sustain our life-changing programs in the wake of injustice and devastation.

Our Friend, Rich

When the pandemic struck, many people in our region lost their jobs. That included Rich, a man from the Hazelwood Community. As many people were left hopeless and aid was slow to reach our community, Rich knew he had to do something. 

That’s when Rich began showing up at our offices each day to volunteer. Every day, without fail, Rich would deliver much needed meals to community members — all out of the kindness in his heart for his fellow neighbors.  

Each day, not knowing where he’d get his next meal, Rich was right there beside our staff members lifting, sorting, carrying, and delivering meals. Extreme cold or extreme heat, Rich was there, without question, not asking for payment. Just there. Doing what needed to be done, so that families didn’t go hungry. 

Finally, a few months after Rich had been volunteering, Rich was offered a position at Center of Life to continue food delivery. He’s been here since the beginning of the pandemic, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see his smiling face and soft eyes each day. You can tell Rich cares about his fellow neighbors through his actions and words, and we’re so lucky to have him. And our neighbors love him as well! 

Without people like Rich, and without people like you, this community would not have survived. It would have been replaced and people would have been displaced long ago. But, together, we’re too strong to let that happen.
