Centers for Habilitation Tch

TCH began in 1967 to provide support and assistance to families that had children with disabilities.  They began a co-op as an alternative to institutionalization for their children. 
TCH started out serving a handful of young children and today we serve nearly 700 individuals with disabilities (consumers) in the state of Arizona.  TCH champions communities where people with disabilities enjoy self-determined, barrier-free lives.

Meet Laura: Laura is a training associate in the work center. 
The work center is located on site at TCH.  Her job duties consist of paper sorting and assembly work.  Her work hours are between 8am and 4pm, Monday thru Friday.  Laura has been employed at The Centers for Habilitation and ASDD Document Destruction for 15 years.  Laura began working on refurbishing airline headsets, moved into assembling baby kits, folding towels, and now she sorts paper and assembles small boxes of items for gift shops.  Laura is a very hard worker.  She looks forward to work everyday.  She was awarded the City of Tempe’s Employee of the Year at the Mayor’s disability Awards in 2012.   Independence is important to Laura.  She finds this through her job at TCH and she has worked to be able to live with less supports.   Laura lives life; getting the most out of every day.  She is not afraid to speak her mind.  She is fun to be around and
helps others see the importance of the “little things in life.”  The way she does not take things too seriously is contagious for those around her. She lights up a room with her smile.

Meet Victor: Victor works in the TCH work center and resides in a TCH Group Home. Life has not been easy for him; he has Cerebral Palsy and has limited sight.  He relies on wheelchair chair for mobility.  Victor’s personal accomplishments are living each day to the fullest despite challenges or barriers.  If only we all had his attitude; life would be so much more.  He is an inspiration to all of us.

The individuals that TCH serves are some of the most vulnerable in the community and the most inspiring.  Their ability to persevere through life’s challenges is an amazing accomplishment. We as a community can learn so much from them.  Through your support TCH can continue to provide services that improve the quality of life for others.
