Central Arizona Land Trust

Our mission is to preserve and protect open space, wildlife habitat, working agricultural lands, and the scenic and cultural values of central and northern Arizona for future generations.

Central Arizona Land Trust (CALT) is the only local, accredited land trust serving central and northern Arizona. In this capacity, we are uniquely qualified to hold conservation easements for the preservation of our natural resources, wildlife habitat, scenic views, and historic and agricultural values. Our conservation easements range from public open space to working ranches totaling more than 4,000 acres. We have shown leadership in local land protection since 1989 and retain a close connection to the community through our strong and diverse board of directors. Moreover, we are proud of our excellent track record of working with landowners to address their conservation needs.

We have expanded our service area, which brings both new conservation opportunities and the need for additional resources. A new partner is the Camp Navajo/Army National Guard Base in Coconino County. We are developing conservation easements with private landowners surrounding the base to ensure long-term compatible uses that serve the national interests of the Base and to provide natural resource protection.

More and more landowners contact us to conserve the land they love for future generations. To this end, we need funds to steward new conservation easements and also to reach out to new landowners to assist them in their conservation needs.

While quality development is needed and growth will have many benefits for our communities, conservation must be considered in the mix of plans for housing, commercial, and roadway development. With thoughtful plans for conservation, we can continue to enhance the outdoor experiences that are so important to our community. Your support helps us be at the table when development is being planned so that wildlife, trails, and local farms and ranches can be protected through partnering with landowners. In the words of the American Farmland Trust: "We need land to grow the food, healthy soils to nourish the crops and livestock, clean water on farms, and farmers to make it all happen."
