Community Foundation for Southern Arizona

A nonprofit organization

25 donors

We care about the communities of Southern Arizona. Our fundholders, trustees, volunteers and staff have strong ties to this region and play a key role in addressing community needs now and long-term.

Together, we are community catalysts, bringing diverse voices and groups together to address local issues, and to encourage greater giving and volunteering.

We foster the development of new organizations and programs, support high-impact opportunities, and redirect funds as community needs change.

Gifts to the Civic Leadership Campaign at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona support the ability of our fundholders, trustees, volunteers and staff to take the lead in solving problems.

We have a long history as convener, facilitator, collaborator, educator, leader and donor advocate, providing an enormous return on investment.  For example:

  • Literacy. As a result of the 2007 Tucson Regional Town Hall, we launched the Literacy for Life Coalition, bringing together government, nonprofit, business, media, funding, and educational organizations.  In partnership with Social Venture Partners, we facilitated the merger of five organizations into Literacy Connects.
  • Data. We developed the Southern Arizona Indicators project – www.southern.arizonaindicators.org – making it possible for nonprofits to emphasize their case with local facts and demographics, and data to measure their effectiveness.
  • Health. We helped form the HIV/AIDS Consortium that resulted in greater organizational efficiency and nearly $30 million in community grants for HIV related-services (medical, dental, behavioral health, medical case management, transportation, etc.) through the Ryan White CARE Act.
  • Donor Services. Last year, Foundation partners invested more than $6 million in area nonprofits
