Chagpori USChagpori US is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and spreading the spiritual and medical aspects of Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Tibetan Medicine. As a support branch for Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, we bridge traditional healing wisdom between East and West while maintaining the integrity and authenticity of this ancient medical lineage.
Our Programs and Initiatives
Kids Herbal Magic Camps
We offer day-off-school and full-time summer camps that introduce children to the natural world of herbal medicine. These camps promote environmental awareness, herbal knowledge, and children's connection to medicine that grows in their own backyards and open spaces. Through hands-on activities and kitchen science, children learn to promote wellness while exploring traditional Tibetan medicine theory and western science.
Taught by the longest fully trained American Tibetan Doctor, these camps educate without cultural appropriation and foster a love of science, nature, and herbal medicine. Since their inception, Kids Herbal Magic camps have raised close to $10,000, with 100% of proceeds supporting Chagpori's educational mission in India.
Sowa Rigpa Lifestyle & Dietary Wellness Facilitator Course
This comprehensive training program provides healthcare practitioners with the tools to ethically integrate Tibetan medical wisdom into their practices. Local wellness providers, licensed doctors, midwives, naturopaths, acupuncturists, health coaches and those working in nutrition and healthcare will learn invaluable skills for successful integration of a centuries-old medical tradition without overextending or culturally appropriating in ways that would degrade the integrity of Tibetan Medicine as a system. The course will begin when enough students have been enrolled.
Infrastructure Development in India
New regulations for Traditional Tibetan Medicine require the Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute campus to expand to meet contemporary educational standards. The institute has secured land adjacent to the traditional pharmacy in Darjeeling, India, and has already invested seed funding to develop comprehensive architectural plans for a medical college with classrooms and teaching facilities, a fully functional teaching hospital for clinical training, and residential dormitories for students and faculty. To bring this vision to reality and comply with standards required by the Indian government, we need to raise 1 million US dollars for construction of these essential facilities.
