The Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC) was formed in 1961 when 20 women sought to support families in need. The founders’ legacy provided the foundation of CALC’s mission today: to provide programs that guide, support, and empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity and hope.
CALC has grown from an all-volunteer agency into a robust organization providing wrap-around services. In 2016, the Board adopted the name United Community Family Services (UCFS) to portray an organization supporting the community as a whole. Today, UCFS continues to empower its Clients on their path to self-sufficiency with dignity and hope.
United Community Family Services is a community-based, community-led organization providing wrap-around supportive services for Clients with low- to moderate-income annually, primarily refugees and immigrants, empowering them on their path to self-sufficiency with dignity.
Through personalized support, UCFS offers in-house programs such as citizenship and integration, afterschool tutoring, summer youth sports, nutrition education, maternal health education, elderly refugee, and life skills programs. UCFS also provides employment services, including re-credentialing, resume preparation, and job placement assistance; individualized one-on-one financial coaching; translation and interpretation; healthcare navigation; benefits application assistance; and more. Utilizing its deep understanding of the community's needs, UCFS guides over 10,000 individuals every year through unique challenges and empowers them to achieve their goals and become self-sustaining.
