“It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving” made by Mother Teresa inspired us to put our hearts together to start working in Bangladesh to educate and encourage the people to drink safe water and provide safe drinking water to live healthy lives.

Arsenic poisoning in drinking water in Bangladesh has already been identified as one of the world’s greatest humanitarian disasters. Out of 150 million people in Bangladesh, 35-77 million people are at risk from arsenic contamination of water. It is estimated that between 1-5 million children are at risk of death by arsenicosis by 2030. By the early 1990s, villagers from different areas of Bangladesh began breaking out with skin disorders and experiencing fatigue symptoms of arsenicosis, or arsenic poisoning, from imbibing the water. “Erom kore beche thakar ceye more jaowa onek valo” (I think it’s better to die than live like this) a statement made by a victim of arsenic poisoning illustrates the unbearable pain due this hazard.

The project’s goal is to educate the population of Bangladesh about the hazards of arsenic in their drinking water via high school students and to help replace contaminated wells.

Join CWB Bangladesh team to extend our project to empower the youth, enlightening their minds about this deadly hazard and exercising their leadership by disseminating the knowledge that they get from us. The funds we collect will also help us in replacing the arsenic contaminated wells with safe wells. Together we’ll ensure the villagers are drinking safe water and preventing illnesses caused by arsenic.  We strongly believe that while it may not be apparent what such interactions yield in the short term, each interaction can have the ‘potential of lighting a match to a candle’, of igniting many young minds in ways that can bring a positive change in the society.

Some endorsements that were made by the High School students after participating in our presentation during school visits were:

“From this presentation I learned that people from any ages can be affected by arsenic in water whereas I used to think that only middle aged or old people can be affected by it. This presentation clarified a huge misconception that I have believed this long”- Tasneem Farhana Meem, Stduent, Class 9, Terial School, Bangladesh.

“From this project, I learned how to do arsenic testing and differentiate the safe and unsafe water. Now I will be able to go to my community and educate them”- Nadia Akter Happy, Kumira Girls’ High School, Bangladesh.
