Giving Tuesday 2021: No Senior Goes Hungry
$0 Raised
Cherokee County Meals On Wheels was founded in May of 1984 to meet a definite need among the elderly and handicapped of our county. Twenty meals were served daily at first, purchased from the hospital and delivered by 20 volunteers. Today we serve more than 400 people with the help of more than 300 volunteers.
We receive no government funding and we do not charge our clients. Therefore we are totally dependant on donations and support from the community.
The food is prepared in our own kitchen in our building at 403 W. Montgomery St., in Gaffney. Our purpose is not simply to provide meals but to reach out and touch other areas of the recipientsâ lives as needs are observed. Flowers, gifts, extra food, magazines, fans, toiletry items and special donated homemade items are often sent to our people.
Our organization has a full-time director (Terry Dennis), a part-time assistant director, a kitchen manager and two part-time cooks. A group of devoted community leaders serves as our board of directors.
