Giving Tuesday 2024
2 DONORS
Cherokee County Meals On Wheels was founded in May of 1984 to meet a definite need among the elderly and handicapped of our county by the Gaffney Ministerial Association and community leaders. Twenty meals were served daily at first, purchased from the hospital and delivered by 20 volunteers. Today we serve more than 500 people with the help of at least 350 volunteers. Our purpose is to deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to homebound seniors and individuals across Cherokee County. By doing so, we aim to combat hunger, reduce isolation, and support overall health and well-being, allowing our clients to maintain their independence and dignity.
We rely on the generosity of the community to provide this service, and we do not charge our clients. We receive funding through grants and donations from churches, clubs and other organizations, and individuals. Cherokee County Meals On Wheels receives funding from a combination of sources, including grants, donations from individuals and businesses, community fundraisers, clubs, and churches. These contributions enable us to continue providing essential services to those in need.
Our organization has a full-time Director (Terry Dennis), and five part time administrative staff: Assistant Director, Director of Food Operations, Client Data and Route Manager, Client Intake Manager, and Community and Volunteer Engagement Associate. We also have four part time kitchen staff: one Lead Cook and three Assistant Cooks. A group of devoted community leaders serves as our board of directors.
