The Chester Pearls Foundation (CPF) is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization created by the
women of the Tau Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® is an international service organization founded on the
campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter
organization established by African American college-educated women.
The mission of Chester Pearls Foundation, under the leadership of President Dr. Jacqueline Irving,
is to promote the educational advancement of youth and to alleviate problems in the
community. Our primary goals include scholarship, mentorship, and academic programming for
the youth of the City of Chester and surrounding Delaware County.
Since 2001, we have hosted our signature event the “Scholarship Ball” which has showcased
talented high school students, affectionately known as "Beaus” and “Belles”. This culminating
event displays our Foundation’s investment in the personal development and civic engagement of
our youth. A comprehensive program is curated each year to expose our youth to formal dancing
and workshops addressing college preparedness, self-esteem, peer pressure, conflict resolution,
mental health, social media, and table manners and etiquette. In addition, the youth participate in
community service, receive mentorship opportunities from supportive and encouraging role-
models, and a chance for a scholarship to be used for college or trade school.
CPF has awarded more than $100,000 in college scholarships, book awards and scholarship ball
participation awards to youth in the city of Chester City and its surrounding communities. It has
also funded community service projects that has addressed food insecurity, youth leadership
development, mental health awareness, supporting/educating senior citizens, building economic
wealth, improving/protecting the environment, advocating for social justice, and uplifting our
community.
