Chicago Tap Theatre has a multifaceted mission: to preserve America's indigenous dance form, to promote that dance through story-based shows and innovative presentation, to educate the community and make tap dance accessible to a broad spectrum of people and to foster relationships with other arts organizations.

Current Campaign:  "Help Chicago Tap Theatre Shuffle Off to Europe!"

In 2013, CTT is proud to celebrate its 10th Anniversary Season with a very special project that truly displays this mission of honoring tap dance through preservation, promotion, education, and collaboration. CTT is partnering with two international tap dance companies – Tapage from Toulouse, France and Tap Olé from Barcelona, Spain – to present an international exploration of the limits of tap dance. The production, titled Liaison, will be presented in partnership with the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago, IL on April 20 and also in France and Spain in Fall 2013.

Chicago Tap Theatre and Tapage have toured the south of France and performed together in Chicago twice previously. Both times were critical and commercial successes, but Liaison will showcase new ideas and original collaborations, particularly the inclusion of Tap Olé. While Tapage brings a uniquely French aesthetic to the American art of tap dance, Tap Olé offers an amazing mix of precise technique, hot rhythms and a genuine sense of humor.

CTT is honored to have the opportunity to share its own unique style of tap dance with the French and Spanish dance communities, and we know that we will return to the states with fresh new ideas to incorporate into our future work. This type of artistic exchange fosters increased creativity and allows the art of tap dance to continue to progress.

CTT needs your help to make this groundbreaking collaboration a reality. CTT, Tap Olé, and Tapage are all taking a big financial risk in traveling abroad to share their work, but it is that risk that provides Chicagoans and Europeans alike with the opportunity to experience tap dance styles from other countries. Not only will your donation help us spread Chicago’s love of tap dance on an international scale, but also it will provide the means for CTT to act as cultural diplomats as we represent America’s indigenous art form in Europe and open up new channels of communication through the universal language of tap dance.
