“Recently, while visiting a family child care home provider for a Reading Is Fundamental session, I noticed that when I finished the book, On Mother’s Lap, the provider was teary-eyed. She told me how much this book reminded her of her mother, who was presently hospitalized. She remembered sitting on her mother’s lap and experiencing the good feeling like the boy felt in the story. She also identified with the setting of the story, which was a simple room with a wood-burning heater, and she recalled a similar heater from her youth. The provider told me that this book touched her heart in a special way, and that she was going to tell her mother when she visited her later that day how much she appreciated all the special times on her lap.”

“Since the birth of my daughter, I have been concerned about her developmental skills both physically and mentally. I wanted her to learn without pushing her beyond her age or limits. Through this program, I have learned that I could teach her by simply playing with her. That took a lot of stress off of a new mother who wanted her daughter to start learning at a young age. I can teach her when I am bathing her, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and exercising. I feel that this program taught me how to teach my daughter through the simplest of things while using my imagination.”

“I would like to personally say thank you for your assistance in helping Miss R. obtain a scholarship. Miss R. would not be able to further her education without the scholarship assistance program. Miss R. is a bright, sweet young lady who loves children and is a true asset to our center. Miss R. understands obstacles such as financial hardships and personal struggles and truly values the opportunity to go to college. Miss R.’s grandmother is fighting cancer and is very proud of Miss R.’s acceptance in your program as Miss R. will be the first family member to obtain her college degree. I pray that her grandmother r will live to see her graduate but regardless of her health issues this opportunity for Miss R. has made her very, very proud. Without the scholarship opportunities many people would not have the ability overcome life’s obstacles. Thanks again!”
