$10,000 Goal

We work with families, caregivers and early learning professionals, and collaborate with community partners to ensure that every child has a great start.

We are a trusted resource for families seeking child care. Our team of experts is available by phone or email to help families explore their early learning options and to make informed choices about this important decision.

We partner with early learning professionals as they develop high-quality care. Through coaching and professional development, we help early learning teachers increase the quality of care available for all children.

We are a collaborator, advocate and data resource in our community, ensuring everyone understands the value of early learning and growing support for key policies that support quality early learning.

Investing in child care is investing in the future. Your GiveBIG donation will:

1. Provide resources to support the development and school readiness of kids who are not enrolled in formal early learning programs.

Nearly 75% of our state’s young children aged 0-5 are NOT enrolled in formal early learning programs like state-funded pre-k and licensed child care, but are instead cared for by family members, family-friends, or neighbors. This is called Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) Care. FFN care is more common among families of color, immigrant, and refugee families; families with children who have special needs; families with infants; and families that are low-income. Across WA state, there are very few resources to support families using FFN Care. While FFN Care allows kids to be raised within their home languages and cultures and helps build lasting relationships with their immediate support systems, it can also be isolating for the caregivers who need support. Kaleidoscope Play & Learn groups are a facilitated, evidence-based educational program that educates and empowers caregivers, builds socio-emotional development, and connects families with resources. Play & Learn builds networks of support in over a dozen languages using cultural practices that meet the identities of the participants. When families have information about how children learn and grow, and resources to support early learning and early development, the children in their care will be prepared to succeed in school and later in life. 2. Provide necessary resources for CCR’s continued advocacy on behalf of families and caregivers.

The 2022 Washington State Legislative Session was another big year for our early learning community! Our Advocacy Team comprised of child care providers, parents, FFN caregivers, CCR staff and board members, and partners from early learning organizations, mobilized together and advocated for equitable early learning policies. We continued to focus our efforts on fully expanding facilitated Play & Learn groups across WA state. FFN caregivers, advocates, and Play & Learn Facilitators met with legislators and were successful in getting support to make a request to the state legislature for funding that would expand Play & Learn groups. FFN caregivers also testified before the legislature during budget hearings to request support for this funding. They all spoke powerfully before a virtual room of legislators—some with the support of an interpreter—allowing legislators to hear and see how Play & Learn groups are a culturally and linguistically-specific program, and how the groups are an important racial equity investment for our state’s early learning system.  Read more…
