Child Inc

A nonprofit organization

Maya Angelou said, “Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud.”   Please consider being the rainbow in the lives of the children and families we serve by supporting CHILD, Inc. with your donation.

Many of the clients we serve at CHILD, Inc. are living under a cloud of abuse or neglect, frustration or fear. The staff who work with the youth we shelter at the Governor Terry Children’s Center and in our specialized foster care program help to lift the cloud of abuse or neglect the children have endured by providing care, structure and a listening ear. The women and children who stay at Martha’s Carriage House and Sarah’s House, our shelters for victims of domestic violence, are emerging from the cloud of violence and fear with the help of our shelter staff who counsel and support them as they work to build a new life. For families who are struggling to raise children under the cloud of an uncertain world we offer guidance and skills to support them in their most important role of parent.

From the beginning in 1963, the agency has been committed to helping children reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment. CHILD, Inc. began as an agency committed to working with abused, neglected and dependent children and has evolved into a comprehensive child-centered, family-focused social service agency. CHILD, Inc. offers a wide array of services, all of which are intended to help Delaware's families. These services include foster care, parenting education classes, a shelter for abused, neglected and dependent children, and a comprehensive array of services to the victims of domestic violence including: a bi-lingual hotline, two shelters for battered women and their children, counseling, three family visitation centers, and advocacy. We also operate a family resource center and programming for children in the community of Sparrow Run. In 2021, CHILD, Inc. served approximately 7,100 people.

For over 59 years, CHILD, Inc. has been a leading advocate and service provider for Delaware's children and families. Your donation will provide funding for a variety of needs including counseling services, parenting classes, food and supplies for our shelters.  Please consider supporting CHILD, Inc. with a tax deductible donation.  We strive to lift the clouds that hang over too many children and families in our state.  Please help by being their rainbow!
