Children are a major focus at Chinmaya Mission New Orleans Bala Vihar
Bala Vihar is weekly gathering of children, between the ages of two to eighteen years that takes place in Chinmaya Mission New Orleans to teach scriptures and culture. The other classes include, classical and instrumental music, art, yoga and meditation classes for children and adults
In Bala vihar we help children to make the right choices in life, because it is these choices that will determine their future. The bala vihar curriculum is based entirely on our scriptures. A team of specially trained, experienced, and dedicated teachers teach the bala vihar program. Through games, arts, crafts, stories, and other unique techniques, the bala vihar program imparts and reinforces spiritual and cultural values. The curriculum designed for all grade levels is creative and dynamic. The children are taught how to cope with stress - by meditation and chanting hymns, respect and reverence for all forms of life and protection of the environment with an attitude of gratitude. We have observed that the knowledge provided helps the children to become more attentive and less distracted and disruptive, success in school/life

Bala Vihar has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In Bala Vihar I feel as if I have been on a journey in which I have discovered things about the world , even myself that I didn't know before.I started in PreK. I walked into the room to see my classmates, many of whom are still my classmates today, seated in a circle, with the teacher in the front of the room. And as I took my seat, I thought, "Hopefully, I'll learn something." And, looking back, I see that I did learn a lot. About myself, about the world, about Hinduism, and about many other things!
