Choosing Integrity

A nonprofit organization

Choosing Integrity began in 2014 with a simple but powerful idea: everyone deserves a second chance—and the right kind of support can make all the difference. Founded in Pike County, Pennsylvania, we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to help people rebuild their lives after incarceration and break the cycle of addiction and relapse.

From the start, we’ve believed in meeting people where they are. With the help of a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we offer targeted programs inside the Pike County Correctional Facility. These include SMART Recovery and Women’s Issues, designed to give individuals tools, support, and hope as they prepare for life after jail.

But our work doesn’t stop at the facility gates.

We continue walking alongside people once they return to the community. We host SMART Recovery groups in our community - open to anyone navigating addiction or reentry. We connect individuals to critical resources like housing, job opportunities, mental health care, and substance use treatment.

One of the things we’re most proud of is our new Peer Support Program.  We are helping formerly incarcerated individuals become Certified Recovery Specialists. These are people who’ve lived through the struggle, done the work, and will be able to give back by guiding others. Their stories and support are powerful—because they’ve been there too.

We are also committed to educating our community to challenge the stigma surrounding incarceration and recovery. We understand the challenges individuals face when reintegrating into society, and with compassion and respect, we believe they can transform and thrive.

At Choosing Integrity, we know recovery is a journey. We’re here to walk that journey with people—one step at a time—with compassion, connection, support and the belief that real change is always possible.

Ninety-five of every 100 incarcerated individuals in the United States will be released from confinement and return to our communities. We eagerly engage with as many of them in our county as possible because we want them to return to their families and communities with changed attitudes and changed behavior. This is not only a public safety issue; this is a human issue as well. Many residents of Northeast Pennsylvania have family members who have been incarcerated and have felony convictions. They all deserve to be supported.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life of justice-involved people through education and prevention programming, mentorship, treatment services, advocacy, and compassion —  resulting in enhanced relational skills and successful reintegration within their community. As we engage with this mission, our vision is to see justice-involved individuals gain stability, a sense of purpose and their freedom as they transition to living well-balanced lives.
