Thirty years ago, Christian Family Care founder Kay Ekstrom didn't have any idea the impact CFC would have on the state of Arizona. She simply had a desire to serve vulnerable children. "We knew it would impact their lives and the lives of the families who reached out to them," she recalls, "but we didn't have any idea how much it would grow and the
number of lives it would impact."

As CFC now celebrates 30 years of serving vulnerable children, God has used us to touch the lives of tens of thousands of children in Arizona's foster care system. And hundreds of forever families have been formed through the agency's adoption services. Countless lives have found healing through licensed and Christ-centered counseling services.

CFC has also launched ConnectOne in Arizona for the express purpose of finding adoptive homes for three categories of high-risk children targeted by the Department of Economic Security (DES):

1. Older school-age children
2. Sibling groups
3. Teens in danger of aging out of the foster care system without any family support

One of our founding foster families had a commitment to fostering these difficult to place children. In one instance, a mentally ill birthmom had formed a trusting relationship with this family. The foster mom followed God's prompting, offering to adopt this woman's son. She said yes, and a short time later this boy became a permanent member of their family.

It wasn't an easy transition. As a teen, this young man had a lot of anger and difficulty - so much so, his adoptive mother had to leave her fulltime profession for a season to give him constant supervision and care. But the results were worth her investment into his life.

More than 20 years later this young man is now a successful Marine, serving our country. He has received numerous accolades and accommendations from his commanding officers. His life was transformed by the Christ-centered love and commitment of his forever family.
