When Christy was in middle school she came across an article in LIFE magazine on China's policy prohibiting couples from having more than one child. She wrote an essay on the heart wrenching article of an abandoned baby boy in a forest and it shaped her forever.
Years later, Christy was a beautiful, aspiring 24 year old Christian woman going to Liberty University in Virginia. During her days in college, Christy trusted the Lord to lead her in the direction of great faith that gave her a vision to do His work. Christy spent five weeks in China teaching English to children. She enjoyed working with the children so much that she made it her dream to one day go back. Christy hoped to somehow help these children by either working in an orphanage or opening one of her own.
Her story was cut short, however, when Christy began to have health problems and was eventually diagnosed with a rare cancer. She went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2010.
In 2011 Christy's Legacy of Hope was founded to commemorate Christy's impactful life, so even in her passing her dream could be fulfilled. The desire to help children all over the world live happier, safer, and more fulfilling lives. The passion that burned within Christy to put a smile on the face of a hurting child.
Christy's Legacy of Hope operates completely on a volunteer basis with minimal overhead. We help meet the physical needs of orphans and foster children by providing diapers, clothing, vitamins, car seats, cribs, school supplies, toiletries and more. We also assist children aging out of foster care as they are venturing out on their own in this world, children in kinship care and abandoned youth.
