Children's Home Society of Florida has a vision of "A world where all children realize their full potential." We believe that cases like the one below best illustrate how encouragement and our services have helped youth maintain success.

Belva arrived to Children's Home Society of Florida's (CHS) residential facility two years ago with badly scared arms.  She was "cutting" to cope with the stress of year of verbal, sexual, and physical abuse.  During the beginning of her stay she was constantly acting out for attention.  When she wasn't running away, she was failing out of all her classes.  Because of her oppositional defiant behavior she was arrested several times.  However, through the years with CHS, Belva has come along way.  She now has the support and love of the staff that show her how to deal with her inner scars.

CHS staff encouraged Belva to get involved in the community.  At the time, she agreed to volunteer at he local YMCA because it was her opportunity to get away for a few hours.  However, after displaying her hard work, the TYMCA offered her a job as a teacher's aide.  She now loves her job and works three day s a week.

Now, Belva is full of energy and a joy to be around.  She has developed a positive mind-set and with the help of the staff, has learned how to make positive forward thinking decision.  Now, a junior in high school, she is already looking at her college options.  With the help of CHS staff, Belva feels confident in herself and is ready to age out this year.
