Our vision is an economically and socially diverse city with, safe, green and secure neighborhoods where families are equipped to meet their needs and where children and youth of all colors grow and thrive together.

Founded in 1996, the Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative is dedicated to stabilizing low-income individuals, families, and communities. Using a strengths-based, family-centered model, we believe that all families can make good decisions for the safety and well-being of their children. We offer family services, positive youth development programs, workforce development programs and community capacity building and training.

Our accomplishments include:

Workforce Development:

  • In 2006, the Green Team started with services to one businesscorridor and 8 crew members. Today, we service six business corridors and employ 47 crew members.
  • 86% of current crew members have made significant progress in meeting court mandates.
  • 75% of current crew members have achieved personal stability.

Family Services

  • 98% of the children in our families are able to remain in the home.
  • We are able to provide support services to 100% of families that express need

Youth Violence Prevention

  • Our Summer Media Anti-Violence Campaign Committee (SMACC) uses social media, radio blitz, social corners, community canvassing by Youth Peace Advocates, as well as small scale community events with live entertainment provided by the youth bands and local artist of Washington, DC to spread powerful anti-violence messages.
  • We have engaged more than 2,000 youth in violence prevention, intervention and positive youth development activities over the past two years.
