Mission

Citizen Advocacy of Atlanta & DeKalb’s mission is to promote and facilitate a growing number of citizen advocacy relationships that provide protection and advocacy for people impacted by disability discrimination.

We work to deliver on our Mission and Vision by Coordinating Citizens to Cultivate Caring Community. 

Citizen Advocacy works to Cultivate Caring Community through initiating and supporting advocacy relationships, building a more inclusive community through education, and modeling care centered around our neighbors with developmental disabilities. 

A caring community is a place where everyone is important, we embrace what makes us different, and we lend a helping hand to others. Citizen Advocacy wants to bring this kind of community to life in Atlanta. We plan to achieve this by deliberately initiating and supporting one-on-one relationships that focus on people with developmental disabilities.

The Citizen Advocacy Office gathers a varied group of dedicated members and supporters. Their mission is to find individuals who might be at risk of being discriminated against due to their disability. They aim to learn about their life stories and situations, and then find an appropriate advocate from within their local community.

Citizen Advocacy mainly works on fostering a supportive community through individual actions and relationships. We also understand that what we do also helps the entire community. By showing various examples of people helping each other, especially around disabilities, Citizen Advocacy makes the community stronger and more welcoming to everyone.
