Citizens Concerned for the Homeless Inc

Sand Castle Shelter for Homeless Families provides short term emergency shelter for families and single women.  SCS, a drug and alcohol free environment, manages programs specificly designed for the needs of each familiy upon enrollment. Jobs, housing opportunities and government assistance remain the primary focus on our program goals. Designed to address each family’s specific needs, our programs also include health care needs, banking, budgeting and money management issues, day care and after school programs as well as other basic life skills challenges. Our team, along with our dedicated community and professional partners, design and implement each family’s plan with the goal of completion and graduation within a thirty day period. While aggressive, families motivated to improving and growing their future have shown these programs can be executed within the timetables developed upon enrollment.

 

Grace Learning Center (GLC) opened in 2011 with the intent of helping to significantly eliminate homelessness and poverty through adult education.  Since its opening, Grace Learning Center has served over 400 La Porte County residents through providing a non-threatening environment where adults and teens can come and use the computer lab for job searching, resume writing, e-mailing, schooling, and sharpening skills through one of the many computer workshops offered.  Clients also use GLC to take steps towards obtaining secondary educatio equivalency certifications.  Other clients come to get basic reading help, while others come for financial seminars and parenting workshops.

As the community's needs change, both SCS and GLC work intently to assist those overcome by new obsticles while connecting these community members with the available local resources.
