Dear friends of Citizens of the World Kansas City,

As we reflect on 2021 and look ahead to the New Year, I am thinking a lot about the importance of connection in the life of a child.

At Citizens we believe deeply in the power of connection in a child’s education. As they learn and grow, children make sense of the world around them through connections—among friends, with their teachers, between academic content and concepts, and within themselves.

We are striving to stay connected even as we have been more physically apart over the past two years. One thing we have missed the most is Friday Morning Sing, our weekly time to gather as a community, sing songs, celebrate student achievement, and connect as teachers, parents, and students. When we gather to sing, play games, celebrate, and enjoy each other’s presence, we trust this just as essential to a child’s growth as math and reading.

Looking ahead to the New Year, we imagine a time soon when you can join us once again for Friday Morning Sing and other celebrations. Our school leadership team has identified some key priorities that will make our elementary and middle schools even better for gathering in person. I hope you will join me this year in supporting our Annual Giving campaign, a fundraising effort to sound-proof our Multi-Purpose Room, purchase musical instruments and PE equipment for students on both campuses, and support meaningful operational projects.

Our goal for the 2021-2022 school year is to raise $75,000 through a combination of community giving, major gift donors, and grant support. Will you join me by making a year-end contribution toward our Annual Giving campaign?

This year Citizens continues to grow with the intention of moving beyond our start-up years in order to embrace a season of sustainability, stability, and strength. Last summer Dr. Danielle Miles joined us as our new academic leader to implement our new strategic plan with the goal of establishing Citizens as a leader in KC education. In the coming months, we hope for the chance to connect with you more often to share our vision for the future. If you would like to learn more about this campaign and opportunities for giving, please reach out.

Since our earliest days, Citizens of the World Kansas City has been a community effort. Thank you for being connected to our school community over the last six years, and I hope you will continue to partner with and support us in the years to come.
