CSSSA [public charity, 501(c)(3)] promotes humane horse-handling and classical stock riding. We are part of the legacy of Monte Foreman’s humane Horse-Training Science, and his vision “to make the best instruction available to the average rider for a reasonable price.”  Today, his legacy continues through Foreman-certified instructors like Ron McLoughlin, but only a handful of Foreman’s “top hands” are still teaching.  That’s why CSSSA’s work is so important.  By preparing qualified riding instructors to teach the Foreman-McLoughlin System in the coming decades, we can ensure that Monte’s legacy will endure.

The weakest link in the horse industry today is instruction - very few instructors are adequately trained. Due, in part, because there are too few opportunities for aspiring horse professionals to obtain a systematic, comprehensive education to become instructors (and clinicians) truly qualified to teach humane methods of classical horse handling.

• CSSSA is one of very few hands-on educational institutions for riding instructors in the USA.  It promotes in-depth, long-term training of instructors, as well as riding students of all levels.

• CSSSA actively promotes the classical approach to stock seat riding -- only progressing to advanced levels when a horse is mature and adequately prepared. As a result, classical methods are among the most humane, with the goal of making a horse safe, balanced, relaxed, responsive, and agile, while also keeping him—or her—sound throughout a long and useful lifetime, even into thier late 20's and 30's.

• We at CSSSA believe in the 'humane-ness' of classical methods due to our experiences. We've had the privilege of working with many horses who were only exposed to classical training, and they do remain exceptionally sound--in both body and brain--longer than average. For example, today we have four school horses between the ages of 20-30 who are all sound and productive--and their common background involves classical training.
